NOTICE OF VACANCY Dean of Academics and Equity   José M. Torres, PhD, President of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) invites you to apply for this leadership opportunity to foster a uniquely challenging, highly personalized program of advanced study for our talented students who understand and share our passion for our mission.  The Dean of Academics and Equity supports all students by scaffolding and accelerating instruction based on student needs. The successful candidate will begin July 1, 2020.   Position Summary The faculty of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is committed to offering an innovative student-centered, constructivist curricula designed to engage students in generative, critical thought.  As the leader of the academic programs of the residential academy, the Dean advances curriculum and assessment aligned to revised Standards of Significant Learning (SSLs) that transitions the Academy to competency and performance-based instruction. The Dean is also responsible for supporting and advancing equity and excellence throughout the academic programs.  Development of an assessment plan including a critical review of appropriate metrics and measures is an instrumental element of this role. Inherent with this role is the willingness and ability to collaborate with, gather input from, and consider input from students, parents, and staff, including faculty. In addition, the Dean will collaborate closely with the Principal, the Dean of Faculty and Equity, and the Dean of Student Support and Equity to support the Academy’s mission.

The successful candidate will begin July 1, 2020.   Position Summary The Dean oversees student support for academics within the residential academy. Oversight encompasses all aspects related to the students’ academic experience from initial placement and scheduling to ongoing academic support throughout the students’ three years at the Academy. The Dean also guides the Academy’s efforts to make certain every student is known, challenged and supported academically in equitable ways. Inherent in this role is the willingness and ability to collaborate with, gather and consider input from students, parents and staff, including faculty. The Dean also facilitates restorative work between/among student to student and student to faculty. In addition, the Dean will collaborate with the Principal, the Dean of Faculty and Equity, and the Dean of Academics and Equity to support the Academy’s mission.

The Science Team at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) is seeking a full-time Microbiology/Molecular Biology Faculty member to begin in the Fall of 2020. The candidate selected for this position will be teaching general biology courses and electives in microbiology and molecular biology. The Science team delivers a program through which students develop collaborative inquiry skills, apply integrative critical thinking and engage in active research. We encourage individuals who enjoy making a difference in the lives of talented students to apply.   Successful candidates will have a master’s or doctorate degree in a life science discipline and a record of demonstrated successful teaching. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience incorporating computational biology into their classroom.   This position fulfills the requirement for DFI (Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois) Fellows following completion of their academic program.   The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The World Languages Team at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) is seeking a full-time Spanish instructor starting in the fall of 2020. World Languages at IMSA are taught in an immersion learning environment with a departmentally developed curriculum framework. We encourage individuals who enjoy making a difference in the lives of talented high school students to apply.   Successful candidates will have a master’s or doctorate degree in Spanish, Second Language Acquisition (with an emphasis in Spanish), or a related field and a record of demonstrated successful teaching. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in curriculum design and knowledge of ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. IMSA’s Mission: To ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.   Resident Counselor Job Description: The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is currently seeking Resident Counselors for the 2020-2021 school year. Resident Counselors (RCs) are members of a four person hall staff, who work collaboratively to monitor and support a residence hall. Each of our seven residence halls houses approximately 96 students. RCs are charged with directly supporting and developing 24 students in their wing. Through this live-in campus position, RCs facilitate the personal, social, emotional, and academic growth of students through personal interactions and programming in a living learning environment.   This position will support IMSA's Diversity Stance by ensuring the delivery of quality, equitable, and inclusive constituent-centered support, while promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture, that embraces the diversity of people and perspectives collaborating at IMSA, to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.

The selected candidate will provide administrative and specialized office support functions for the Principal and respond efficiently to requests of the Principal and members of the Principal’s Office team, proactively anticipating problems and needs.   Hours/Shift/Work Schedule:  This position is a full time non-exempt position.  Hours worked: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours.

The selected candidate will be responsible for responding to calls for service, writing reports, and providing and ensuring adequate patrols of the campus to promote a safe learning and working environment for the IMSA Community and its visitors to the campus.  Security Officers may be responsible for Front Desk Operations including, but not limited to; monitoring access to main building, registering guests through a visitor management system, monitoring CCTV camera system, answering telephone switchboard system, monitoring alarm systems, and relaying calls for service to other Patrol Officers.   This position will support IMSA's Diversity Stance by ensuring the delivery of quality, equitable, and inclusive constituent-centered support while promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that embraces the diversity of people and perspectives collaborating at IMSA to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.
