IMSA is committed to equity and excellence, including the active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA’s  PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students, especially Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program, as well as students from rural Illinois counties. 

 

Belleville Campus

Currently, we are seeking a Science Instructor for the Spring 2026 PROMISE Program which serves non-IMSA students currently enrolled in the 7th grade. The program will run on eight Saturday sessions, with the first session designated as Parent Orientation. In this program, candidates will teach students that have varying academic backgrounds.

 

Program Dates and Details: 

  • Expected work hours are Saturdays 8:30AM - 12:30PM
  • Maximum number of participants: 50
  • Session Dates:
    • February 28–Parent Orientation
    • March 7
    • March 14
    • March 21
    • March 28
    • April 11
    • April 18
    • April 25

Program Schedule: 

  • Three 50 minute classes each session consisting of approximately 17 students per class. 
  • Schedule:
    • Class 1:  9:00 AM - 9:50 AM
    • Class 2: 10:05 AM - 10:55 AM
    • Class 3: 11:10 AM - 12:00 PM

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Develop a daily lesson plan–the same lesson will be taught three times each Saturday.  This may include approved original curriculum or curriculum provided by the IMSA Outreach department
  • Lead lectures and hands on activities with assistance from student tutors
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for participating students

 

Other information:

  • Instructors may have the assistance of pre-service teachers or student tutors who can help facilitate activities for small groups.

Qualifications

This position pays $35.00 per hour. This position is not benefits eligible.
