Overview

Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is hiring for its inquiry-based, hands-on STEM summer programs in the MetroEast (greater Belleville) area! Thie position pays $30/hr. Teachers must be available to teach the following three weeks: 

  • June 10 – 14
  • June 24 - 28                              
  • July 8 - 12    

and have some availability to complete tasks listed below.

 

Hours/Schedule:  This position requires:

  • 7 hours of training (either virtually or in person) between May 29 and May 31
  • 3 hours of curriculum review (to be completed prior to the virtual training)
  • 2 hours of room set up on each of the following dates: June 7th, June 21st, and July 5th
  • 22.5 hours for the week of each program, 8:00 am-12:30 pm (Program runs M-F, 9am to 12 noon)
  • Teachers will be paid an hourly rate of $30/hour

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position delivers curriculum to Summer@IMSA program participants in the greater MetroEast area.  This summer locations will be in Belleville and O’Fallon. We are looking for teachers with experience teaching STEM to students in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grades.

 

Grades K-2 program:

Picture this: we're not just diving into cool science, engineering, and mathematics, but we're also uncovering the magic of colors, playing with simple machines that'll blow our minds, splashing around with water wonders, getting to know animals like never before, and even building some seriously awesome structures! Every day is a new chance for our little champs to laugh, play, and explore the world around us. STEAMazing Adventures is where summer learning turns into a wild, colorful, and awe-filled exploration!

 

Grades 3-4 program: 

Shimmy into a week of STEM exploration intertwined with the magic of music! Campers will embark on a journey to unravel the science behind sound, create their musical instruments, and compose tunes using technology. Get ready for a harmonious blend of science and music like never before!

 

All lessons and materials are provided. Each teacher/classroom is supported by one or more volunteer assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Attend training and learn curricular content and activities as presented by IMSA curriculum specialists.
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of Summer@IMSA programs.
  • Teach and supervise students as part of the Summer@IMSA program from 9am to 12 pm.
  • Engage with other teachers in the organization of the program.
  • Communicate with other staff members about programmatic needs.
  • Supervise and collaborate with teacher assistants, when applicable.
  • Organize provided supplies for program.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education (mathematics and/or science preferred.)
  • Strong content background in mathematics and/or science
  • Teaching experience in grade levels indicated
  • Energetic and fun-loving approach to STEM
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
