  • Overview

    The Alumni Relations Coordinator is responsible for leading a multifaceted alumni engagement program, in collaboration with alumni leadership, administrative leaders and program staff, to increase alumni volunteer and financial support of IMSA.


    • Execute on the strategy and plan for increased alumni engagement with IMSA
    • Serve as lead contact/liaison for the IMSA Alumni Association
    • Plan and lead various alumni- and institutional-related activities, including, but not limited to: Class Reunions, the annual Alumni Weekend, Career Forums/Fair, Alumni-Student Mentors, Intersession, IMSAloquium, and regional events
    • Collaborate with program staff to engage alumni as guest speakers and volunteers for classes and special events such as Convocation, Veterans Day and Admissions activities
    • Develop initiatives to proactively seek new and updated information about IMSA alumni, and ensure that alumni activities are planned and leveraged in ways that capture data and information needed for institutional advancement and reporting purposes
    • Design and create content for alumni communications with support from Public Affairs
    • Manage, expand, and provide support for alumni section of website
    • Collaborate with Student Life, the Student Committee for IMSA Advancement, and other student groups to build and sustain positive relationships between our students and our alumni and donors
    • Assist with departmental and institutional projects as needed, including donor relations, solicitations, research, and special events
    • Other duties as assigned


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Three (3) years of professional experience in alumni relations or development. (Alternate experience in student relations, communications, admissions or similar function may be considered for hire)
    • Strong commitment to the values and purposes of IMSA
    • Strong understanding of IMSA’s closest constituencies, their motivations and needs
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish, build and sustain strong relationships
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to be creative, innovative, flexible and decisive
    • Excellent project and event management skills, including keen attention to detail
    • Experience in recruiting, organizing and managing volunteers
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals and diverse populations
    • Ability to use good judgment and discretion with confidential information
    • Ability to work independently, resolve issues, seek help when needed, and work on concurrent projects
    • Workplace experience using website content management systems and social media, including Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter
    • Experienced user of common computer hardware (e.g. laptops), office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office, budget software), mobile devices (e.g. phone), and common peripherals (e.g. printers, others…)
    • Must possess a valid drivers license
    • Ability to work irregular schedules, including periodic evening and/or weekend hours
    • Ability to travel as needed


    The preferred qualifications for this position include:

    • Special event experience
    • Development experience in a higher education or specialized school setting
    • Experience using Blackbaud products Raiser’s Edge and NetCommunity Grow



    Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.  Substantial time is spent working on a computer.  This role requires the following physical activities: talking, hearing and visual acuity, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, loading, unloading and moving materials/boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
